James A. Lancaster was born in 1834 (1833) in Trescott, Washington, Maine, the son of Joseph Lancaster and Thankful (LEATHERS; see research notes below). James married Lucy Elvira Libby on 2 October 1878. They had at least two children, Therease and Bessie O. [1]

The family included Joseph Lancaster, 56, a farmer, with $300 in real estate; his wife, Thankful, 49; their children, all born in Maine, Issachar, 24, a millman; Joseph, 21, a millman; Henrietta, 19; James A., 16, a farmer, and in school; Louisa, 14, in school; and Sophronia, 8, in school. In 1860, the Lancasters lived in Trescott, Washington, Maine. The family included Joseph Lancaster, 66, a farmer, with $600 in real estate and $500 in personal estate; his wife, Thankful, 59; Joseph, 32; James, 27, a farmer, with $600 in real estate and $350 in personal estate; Henrietta, 29; Louisa, 24; and Henrietta, 2. All were surnamed LANCASTER, all were born in Maine. [3]
In 1880, the Lancaster family lived in Trescott, Washington, Maine. The family included James Lancaster, 47, a farmer; his wife, Elvira, 32, and their daughter, Therease, 6, in school. All were born in Maine. [4]
In 1900, the Lancaster family lived in Trescott, Maine. The household included James Lancaster, 67, born in October 1833, a farmer, who owned their farm without a mortgage; his wife of 22 years, Elvie, 52, b. Dec. 1848, who had had three children, one of whom was living; their daughter, Bessie, 16, b. Dec. 1884, in school; and a nephew, Edgar Bancroft, 27, a farm laborer. Living nearby were two other Lancaster households, each including a brother of James Lancaster:

In 1910, the Lancasters lived on their farm on Shore Road East in Trescott, Maine. They owned their farm without a mortgage. The household included James A. Lancaster, 76, a farmer; his wife of 30 years, Elvira, 61, who had had three children, one of whom was living. They were both born in Maine, and both could read and write. James had been married once before. [6]
James passed away sometime after 1910 and before 1930 (his wife is listed as a widow on the 1930 Census).
James is not listed on findagrave. His brother, Issachar is, however, and in his FaG bio, their mother is named as THANKFUL LEATHERS. Issachar, his wife, Henrietta, and a sister, Louisa G. are buried at Lancaster Cemetery, Trescott, Maine. Isaachar’s daughter, Abbie Jones, is buried elsewhere. Find A Grave: Memorial #188266954
