Biography
Zilpha was born on 1 March 1831 in Maine, United States. She was the daughter of Chandler Russell Dustin and Charlotte (Bean) Dustin.
On 26 Dec 1848, Zilpha married William K. Yates in Lawrence, Essex County, Massachusetts.[1]
On 1 Jun 1860, Zilpha, William and their son Herbert were living in Norway Village, Oxford County, Maine in what appeares to be the household of William's father, William Yates and his likely second wife, Priscilla.[2] By the 19th of June, Zilpha and Herbert were enumerated in the household of George and Eliza Blair.[3]
On 30 Mar 1865, Zilpha married Solomon Hayword in Milan, Coos County, New Hampshire.[4]
She and Solomon and their 4-year-old son, Solomon, were still living and farming in Milan, New Hampshire at the time of the 1870 Census.[5]
By the time of the 1880 Census, Zilpha was widowed. She and her two sons -- Bert and Herbert were living in Milan, New Hampshire, and she was working as a dressmaker.[6]
In the 1900 Census, Zilpha was 69 years old and living by herself. She reported that she wa still working as a dressmaker, and she said that she was the mother of three children with only two still living.[7]
In the 1910 census Zilpha (age 79) was living in Milan, Coos, New Hampshire.[8]
Zilpha died on 7 Nov 1918 in New Hampshire. She is buried in Hillcrest Cemetery in Milan, Coos County, New Hampshire.[9]
