Biography

John Moody was born in 1791 in Waterboro, York County, ME, son of Clement Moody (1747 - 1831) and Mary (Unknown) Moody (1748 - 1842).

John (~20) married Rebecca Cady (16) , daughter of Jason Cady and Hannah Marsh, on 4 Dec 1811 in Waterbury, Washington County, VT. Their children were:

There were 2 boys under 5; Strong and Daniel, Leland was 18, Papa, John was 40 to 50. The girls are Florilla, 9, Loretta 14, Rebecca, 16, Aurilla, 19, (Priscilla, 20, Amelia, 21, not on census here)Aurilla married Lemuel Smith in Oct 1840; Amelia and Priscilla must have already moved out; they were close to 21 and 22 when the census was done. Then Mom, Rebecca, 40-50, and the elderly woman mustbe John's mother, Mary who was nearly 100 when she died in 1842.

Abel P. Smith and Thomas Akeley Straw (son of Hannah Moody and Jonathan Straw) live next door and Sanborn Moody lives a few more doors away...do we know him? Truman Moody, son of Clem, jr. and Mehitable Scribner Moody, is about 14 entries down from John, Jr. next to Joseph Smith.
