Biography

Charity Courts was born in 4 Oct 1680 in Charles County, Maryland (Pyckawaxon Manor). Her parents were Col. John Courts and Charity Henley. [1]

Charity Courts married Bayne Smallwood. She is listed in his will, which was probated in Dec 1709. [2] [3] [4]

They had no children.[3] It is suggested that they married in 1701, but no original source identified for this.

Charity Courts then married Daniel Dulany,[4] probably around 1710. They had no children.[4]

Charity passed away in 1711 in Charles county, Maryland.

Charity Courts was never married to William Whittington. That error was created by Winona Pfander in her "Whittington-Brown Book" that speculated she might have been William Whittington's wife who was named Charity. Subsequent research has proven that he was in fact married to Charity Bagby, daughter of John Bagby and his wife Lovinah. Their son, also named William Whittington was also married to another Chairty MNU and they are frequently conflated.

I have a paper which mentions the will of William Buttrune. "In his will he left to kinswoman Charity Courts, 400 acres on Patuxent R. in Calvert Co., (MD) with which testator is possessed in right of his father." Will: 6.66; 3 June 1692; 16 Dec 1692." (Not sure it is this Charity Courty)

Inconsistent dates in profile. Says she was born 1680 but first marriage was in 1681. Also last marriage listed as 1715 is after she died in 1711.

Charity Courts Smallwood Dulany. She first married Bayne Smallwood, he died in 1709 after they were married about 8 years, she then married Daniel in 1710 and she died one year later. She lived and died at Pyckawaxon Manor, in Charles County, British Colonial Maryland. Her mother was Charity Henley. There is no existing paintings of her. After her death, Daniel bequeathed all her estate to her surviving family. Daniel began in 1703, as a legal aid to Col. George Plater, who was close to the Courts family. I don't believe she had any children.
