He married Sarah Sherman, daughter of Hon. Samuel "Of Woodbury" Sherman - they were the parents of 17 children
He had a home lot of an acre on the south side of the Guilford Green in 1710 and inherited from his father a parcel of upland of thirteen acres and one of marsh land containing 6 1/2 acres.
In 1676 he was Ensign of the town Train Band (Militia)
He practiced Law and was active in Government. He was chosen to the Upper House, representing Guilford nine times in the General Court between 1683-1700. In 1702 he was made First Naval Officer of Guilford and in 1703 he was made Judge of the New Haven County Court and the Probate Court. He was Town Clerk of Guilford from 1685 until his death.
