Born August 5, 1920, in Wilson County, he is the son of the late Richard Lemuel and Martha Jane Piercey Watson. He served in the U.S. Army in the 7th Infantry Division during World War II. He was a member of Cedar Creek Baptist Church and attended the Athens Missionary Baptist Church. He was a member of the DAV and VFW.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Dan and Willie Watson; and a sister, Eva Ann Eason.
