Biography

Ann Elizabeth Kipling was born about 1841 at Horncastle Lincolnshire. She was a daughter of Joseph Kipling and Frances Lockwood his wife. The family moved repeatedly, presumably because of Joseph's work as a Wesleyan minister. After leaving Horncastle, they spent time at Howden and Bridlington in Yorkshire and Gateshead in Durham. By 1861, they were living at Skipton in the far west of Yorkshire. In 1863, Ann Elizabeth married William Crump, a native of Skipton, who had a chemists and druggists business in the town. They had at least 6 children. William died on 18 June 1872 aged only 36. At the time of the 1881 census, Ann Elizabeth was still running her late husband's chemists and druggists business in Skipton. She eventually died in 1924 at Lancaster.
