Research Notes

"It's been reported in a number of sources that the mother of the first McGehee was a "Lady" Marian MacDonald, daughter of Sir James MacDonald, Baronet of Sleat, but there is no evidence that Sir James had any such daughter. See http://www.mosquitonet.com/~mcgehee/family/chief.html. I don't know where this alleged connection came from, but what I've seen suggests strongly that its origin was related with the McGehee family legend in particular, and entered into general usage from there. In the absence of the Sleat connection, the Robert Bruce descent vanishes completely. Given that the present-day Chief of Clan Gregor is, like us, descended from Patrick Aberach and Marian, one would suppose that if he thought there was evidence of such a descent he would proclaim it. He does not. I for one will defer to him, since I also defer to him on the truth of our family legend..." ___________________ She was probably a cousin of the MacDonalds of Sleat. She was of Auchatrichatan in Glencoe, member of the family of the MacDonalds of Glencoe.
