Birth

Mary Anne was named after her mother Mary Anne Smith her father was Charles Baigent, a hawker. Mary Anne was born in 1840 and her birth was registered in the 4th quarter of that year in Guildford, Surrey. She was christened on the 4th October 1840 in Stoke, Guildford, Surrey.^[1][2]

1841 Census on the 6th June 1841 Mary was living in Chertsey Street, Stoke, Guildford, Surrey. Her parents have no occupation listed. Page Number 17 Registration Number HO107 Piece/Folio 1080/32 Affiliate Record Type Institution. This record may indicate that the family are in the workhouse which at this time was not unusual. The fact that no occupation is listed is also an indicator.^[3][4]

Mary married Walter Lucas, a cordwainer, on the 27th February 1859 at Holy Trinity Church, Guildford, Surrey. Her father Charles was a hawker and Walter's father John Lucas was a tailor. The witnesses were William Buckland and Sarah Ann Dundy.^[5]

Mary died aged 83 and her death was registered in the 1st quarter 1924 at Guildford, Surrey.^[6]
