Biography

Courtland (alternatively spelled Cortland), Wheeler Bentley was born in Stonington, Connecticut, 5 Nov 1831, a son of Daniel Bentley and Esther Wheeler.

He married 27 Sep 1858 at Goshen, Connecticut, Anna Eliza (Stanton; 1837-1888), with whom he had eight children:

Per the Brown genealogy, Courtland Wheeler Bentley "was educated in the schools of Stonington and was a teacher there for a time, and in Providence, R.I., for four years; afterwards settled in Goshen, where he was a prosperous farmer and much-respected citizen. In 1887 he removed to Ansonia, where he died."
