Biography

Samuel died on Tuesday 7 January 1800, in the town of Yarmouth, Norfolk, England where he was the Minister of the parish church, and was buried at his own church on 14 January 1800:

January 14 The Rev'd S. Cooper D.D. aged 61, late Minister of this Parish. [1]

This fulsome obituary appeared in the Ipswich Journal on Saturday 11 January:

Yarmouth Jan. 10
On Tuesday last died, after a long and gradual
decay, in the 61st year of his age, the Rev. Dr.
Cooper, Minister of this Town, and Rector of Mor-
ley and Yelverton, in the County of Norfolk. The
faculties of his active mind till sickness had depriv-
ed him of the powers of exertion, were strenuously
employed in the duties of his profession as a divine,
in the exercise of his functions as a magistrate, and
in schemes of general utility and extensive benefi-
cence as a member of the community, His writings,
whether religious or political were uniformly
distinguished by an ardent zeal for the encrease of
Christian faith and practice, and an animated attach-
ment to the civil and ecclesiastical establishment of
his country. Fervent in devotion, boundless in
charity , warm in friendship, placable in controversy,
social in public, and affectionate in private life;
while proper allowances are made for human frailty,
his memory will be long cherished by those who
knew him, with mingled regret, esteem and veneration.
He was formerly of Magdalen col. Cambridge, where
he proceeded A.B. 1760, A.M. 1763, D.D. 1777. [2]
