Born in Fall River, the son of the late Frederic J. and Laurence (Levesque) Poirier, he was the husband of Janice (Desrosiers) Poirier, to whom he was married for forty-seven years. CONT CONT A graduate of Westport High School with the Class of 1954, Mr. Poirier served during peacetime with the U. S. Navy. He recently retired as a principal in the Poirier family auto dealership and real estate business. A resident of Portsmouth, R.I., for thirty-four years, he served on the Portsmouth Town Council for sixteen years. He was president of the Council for the last six years and instrumental in acquiring the Glen Manor House and the Glen property. CONT CONT Mr. Poirier was an avid Red Sox fan and accomplished golfer, having recorded six holes-in-one during his playing time. He was a former member of the Portsmouth Lions Club, the Fall River Eagles Club, the Massachusetts New Car Dealer’s Association and the Fall River Country Club, where he served as chairman of the House Committee. His greatest joy in life was his wife and family. CONT CONT In addition to his wife, Mr. Poirier leaves three daughters, Paula P. Bowen and her husband, David of Cumberland, R.I., Renee P. Moriarty and her husband, Michael of Cumberland, R.I., and Jayne E. Chisholm and her husband, John of Boston; two brothers, Maurice J. Poirier of Tiverton, R.I., and Larry F. Poirier of Somerset; three sisters, Clarice Flannery of Bristol, R.I., Muriel Flannery of Swansea, and Cecile Gardella of Milford, MA; five grandchildren, Alexandra and Julia Bowen of Cumberland, R.I., Tyler and William Perry of Cumberland, R.I., and Theoden Chisholm of Boston; and a cousin, Jeannette Campeau of Fall River. Mr. Poirier was the brother of the late Jeanne Parissee.
