Biography

Phebe Humphrey married in Norfolk, Connecticut, 25 October 1762, Ephraim Guitteau/Guiteau, who was born 22 June 1737 and died 21 April 1816. Ephraim Guitteau was a distinguished surgeon and held the rank of captain in the American Navy during the Revolution [DAR Patriot Index, 290]. Phebe (Humphrey) GuitteauGuiteau herself was widely known for her goodness and benevolence and in her old age was called Mother Guitteau (Mother Goose) in the town of Norfolk [Crissey, 565].
