Biography
Almira Jernegan or Jernigan was born in Hingham, Massachusetts, in 1814, the daughter of Jared and Priscilla (Cushing) Jernigan. (Note that her FindAGrave.com page gives her date of birth as February 21, 1821. But based on her age at the time of her death - 58 years, 6 months, and 15 days, per her headstone - she was born about February 19, 1814. Her age in the 1850-1860 censuses would put her year of birth about 1821-1822.)
She married Charles Worth in 1842, as his second wife.[1] They had 6 children:
- Elmira Kent, 1843-1845
- Henry Fletcher, b. 1846
- Eugene Bradford, 1849-1849, died in early infancy
- Frederick Baylies, 1854-1878
- Charles Jr., 1858-1880
- Emily, 1865-1939
She lived in Edgartown throughout her life. At the time of the 1850 census, she lived with her husband and children, while her parents lived next door.[2]

Almira died in 1872.[3] She is buried at the Old Westside Cemetery in Edgartown.[4]
