Biography

William Smith O'Bryan was found as O'brien and O'Brian in census records. He was born in August 1858 in New York. His family lived in Webster, Monroe, New York.[1] In 1870 they were in Troy Ward 8, Rensselaer, New York.[2] In 1880 they were in Southborough, Worcester, Massachusetts, United States.[3]

Smith married Gertrude Kendall. They lived in Kiester, Faribault, Minnesota.[4][5] By 1910 they were i School District 12, Custer, South Dakota.[6][7][8]

I suspect some of these sources may be from different men. I removed the 1930 census for the grocer from Rensselaer since Smith died in 1929. I wonder if the 1870 census might be for the grocer as well?
