Obituary

AN EARLY PIONEER GONE TO REST
Nancy W. Smith died at her home in Middleburgh, Monday, at 5:30, a.m., March 24, 1890, aged 95 years and ten months. Nancy Williams was born in Easton, Mass., May 30, 1794. Was married to Daniel Smith May 11, 1815. They remainedthirteen years in Amherst, Mass., that having been the native place of Mr. Smith. They afterward with their young family spent four years in Marion, N.Y., and came to Ohio in the spring of 1832. Deceased had lived in the home nowsuddened by her departure nearly fifty-eight years. Daniel Smith died July 17, 1866, a little more than one year after celebrating their golden wedding.
Grandma Smith will not soon be forgotten. Her wonderful contentment and pleasing, happy disposition, won for her many friends all of whom in return she held in great esteem. Among the few neighbors who knew her best she was anespecial favorite, and many were the dainty remembrances received from them. She was patient, forgiving and passed through her long life always seeing its brightest side. It cannot be said of her that she lived to be a burden toherself and to others. Although her age was great she passed away while yet in her beauty and loveliness, and will be missed almost as much as at any time in life. Although disabled of walking from the effect of a fall receivednearly three years ago, until her late illness she was very well, and sat comfortably in her easy-chair through the day and enjoyed life in the society of those she loved. March 12, she was taken with influenza which graduallyweakened her and from which all efforts proved unavailing for her to rally. She was fully conscious through all her illness and cheered as much as possible those about her. She was a member of the Presbyterian church of Parma. Sheput her trust in the teachings of the Bible, which book as long as she could read was her almost daily companion. It may well be said of her that she lived a consistent Christian life. Of the nine children, Dwight and Orus precededher to the beautiful land. Those remaining are: S.W. Smith, O.L. Smith, George E. Smith, Mrs. C.W. Bailey and Miss C.E. Smith, all of Middleburgh; Daniel W. Smith of Delta, O., and Lyman J. Smith of Toledo, O.
The funeral was held on Wednesday, March 26, at her late residence, conducted by Rev. J.E. Collom, pastor of the Berea Congregational church. The remains were taken to Woodvale cemetery. The pallbearers were her grandsons, Wm. C.Bailey, Albert F. Smith, Burrett J. Smith and Wilbur D. Smith.[4]
