Biography

Solomon was born in 1802. His parents were Salmon Ruggles and Sarah Dean. Salmon was about 15 years older than Sarah. Solomon’s parents divorced and his father went west eventually to Missouri. Sarah and Solomon stayed in Virginia. Sarah remarried to her 1st cousin Jedediah Dean in Virginia.

In the 1840 census Salmon was in Smyth, Virginia.^[1] In the 1850 census Soloman (age 46), Farmer, was in Subdivision 31, Knox, Tennessee, United States.^[2] In the 1860 census Saml (age 57), Farmer, was in District 15, Roane, Tennessee.^[3] In the 1870 census Salomon (age 68), Farmer, was in District 15, Roane, Tennessee.^[4] In the 1880 census Samuel (age 78) was the widowed head of household in District 15, Roane, Tennessee, United States.^[5]

Solomon died on 23 November 1882. Solomon’s will was probated in Roane County Tennessee on 5 February 1883. Two of his sons-in-law, George Bailey and Hiram Bailey, and a future son-in-law, E. E. Evans, were appointed administrators. Solomon’s burial location is unknown.^[6]
