John King came of a family formerly seated at Feathercock Hall, near Northallerton, Yorkshire. [1] & [2]
Noted on his Funeral Entry as Muster Master of Ireland. [3]
He married c. 1585 Catherine Drury (d. 1617), the daughter of Robert Drury, nephew of Sir William Drury, lord deputy of Ireland. [1]
By July 1585 he was acting as secretary to Sir Richard Bingham, governor of Connaught [4] & [5]
1603 he was made clerk of the crown in chancery and clerk of the hanaper, [1] and the same year Boyle Abbey, co. Roscommon was leased to two English soldiers, namelty himself and John Bingley, the former finally taking possession of the property, along with more than 4,000 acres in 1617".
"To sir John King, Knt., were granted by patent dated the 20th of November 1616, the abbey of Boyle, the rectory and tithes of Boyle. . . which had been demised for twenty-one years to John St. Barbe". [1]
He amassed extensive landholdings scattered throughout Ireland. [5]

In 1614 he was appointed to assist in the plantation of Wexford [6]
By 1615 he was living at Baggotrath, near Dublin
By privy seal from Rufford 8 August 161 9, he was appointed a commissioner for the plantation of the county of Longford, and the territory of Elye O'Carroll in the King's. County [2]
Styling himself Sir John King of the Close at Lichfield, Staffordshire, he made his will in may 1636 and died on 4 Jan. 1637, being buried in the church of Boyle, Roscommon, Ireland on 30th. March. [2]
