MR. F. B. S. FALKINER. PASTORALIST'S DEATH Mr. Franc Brereton Sadlier Falkiner. one of the leading stud merino breeders of the world, died at his Foxlow station, near Queanbeyan, on October 30, after several days' illness. He was aged 62 years. Mr. Falkiner was apparently well a week ago, but on his arrival at Foxlow station on Thursday last he became ill suddenly. Two doctors, one from Melbourne and one from Sydney, were called, and two trained nurses were engaged, but Mr. Falkiner gradually became worse in spite of the utmost care and attention. Mr. Falkiner was the eldest son of the late Mr. Franc Sadlier Falkiner and Mrs. Emily Elizabeth Falkiner, of Boonoke, Conargo (N.S.W.). He was born in Ararat in 1867, and was educated at the Geelong Grammar School, where he was a member of the football team. Early in life he obtained valuable pastoral training on his father's properties, and when they were embodied in a company, under the name of F.S. Falkiner and Sons Ltd., in 1898, he became a director. For some time he managed Moonbria and Tuppal stations. Shortly after the death of his father Mr. Falkiner left the company and bought the famous Haddon Rig merino stud, near Warren (N.S.W.), which he owned until his death. About six years ago he purchased Foxlow Station. Formerly Mr. Falkiner lived in Orrong road, Toorak, but for many years his home had been in Bellevue Hill, Sydney. In 1913 Mr. Falkiner successfully contested the Riverina seat in the House of Representatives against the sitting member, Mr. Chanter. He was defeated in the following year, but in 1917 he won the Hume seat, and he held it until 1919, when he retired. Mr. Falkiner married, in 1902, Miss Elizabeth Ethel Howatt, the daughter of Mr. George Howatt, of Melbourne. He had two sons, Messrs. George and Richard Falkiner, of Sydney, and two daughters, Miss Enid Falkiner, who is in London, and Mrs. James Lowry, of New Zealand. His widow and children survive him. Mr. Falkiner was a brother of the late Mr. Norman Falkiner, M.L.C., and Mr. Otway Falkiner. Mrs. Fred. Knight, of Toorak, is his sister.
