Biography

Alexander (Forbes) Forbes IInd Lord Forbes of Pitsligo was born in Scotland.

Alexander (Forbes) Forbes IInd Lord Forbes of Pitsligo is a member of Clan Forbes.

Alexander Forbes was born about 1635 this is an estimation based on a date plate on Pitsligo Castle believed to be in commemoration of Alexander's coming of age^[1]. His parents, Alexander (Forbes) Lord Forbes of Pitsligo and Jeane Keith died when he was infant of around 1 year old^[1].

Alexander served as heir to his father on 27 April 1637 however was still a minor at this time and was raised by a Guardian who controlled his estates for the next 20 years. His Guardian was the Tutor of Pitsligo, Forbes of Boyndlie^[1][2][3].

Alexander married Mary Erskine the daughter of James Erskine the VIth Earl of Buchan and Mary Douglas the Countess of Buchan. It is not known exactly when they married^[2].

The couple are said to have only had the one child:

• Alexander Forbes, heir
  • Birth: about 1655 which is estimated on him having been 35 when he died in 1690^[2]
  • Married: Sophia Erskine the daughter of John Erskine the IVth Earl of Mar and Jean Mackenzie the Countess of Mar. It is believed they married in 1676^[1][2].
  • Death: December 1690 just a few months after succeeding his father^[1][2].

Alexander was acive in Parliament between 1661 and 1689 when he was excused his attendance^[2].

Alexander died after 7 June 1690 but before the death of his son in December 1690^[2].
