Richard was baptised on 3 October 1585 at Lolworth, Cambridgeshire.[1] He was the fourth son of Francis Bickley and Amy Mayers.
By the age of 33 he was in Kingsbury, Warwickshire which is about 73 miles from Lolworth in Cambridgeshire where he married his wife Sarah Rugeley (or Ridgley) on 13 September 1618.[2]
According to the Visitation of Warwickshire 1682, finished in 1683, their oldest son Francis presented his arms, when he was about 57, for the first time, to the Herald on 7 August 1683. It showed both Richard and son Francis as being of Halloughton (probably Holloughton a Hamlet within the Parish of Kingsbury).[3] This Visitation records that Richard died in 1666 aged 82. He does not appear to have presented Arms in his own right as he himself does not appear as such in any Visitation to date. The Visitation records Richard's elder brothers John, Robert and Frauncis as well as some of his sisters. Richard's father Francis was said to be of 'Lolworth in Com: Cambrig: descended from a younger brother of the Bickley’s of Bickley upon ye River Ex in Devonshire'.
According to the Visitation, Richard's wife Sarah was the daughter of John Rugeley, 2nd brother to Rafe Rugeley Esquire of Dunton in county Warwickshire. Rafe was the uncle of Sir Rowland Rugeley, Kt. At the time of the Visitation, she was 82. She was coheir with Anne, her sister to their father John. Anne married John Jesson of Rotherith juxta Southwark in Surrey.
According to the Visitation, Richard and Sarah had 4 sons and 5 daughters:
1. Francis Bickley of Halloughton in county Warwickshire. About 57 in 1683. He married Mary daughter and coheir of Roger Jones of Hackney in county Middlesex. Mary's mother was Frances and her father was ...Ted of Sturmer in Essex. At the time of the Visitation Mary's mother Frances was married to James Abney Esquire of Willesley in county Derbyshire. So Mary's father must have died before 1682.
2. Richard Bickley, Parson of Attleborough in county Norfolkshire, and chaplain to the Lord Berkeley. About 46 but has no issue. He married his cousin Mary Bickley.
3. John Bickley, citizen and Upholsterer of London. Hath as yet no issue. About 44. His wife was said to be Gertrude, daughter of Tristram Berisford of London of the family Beresford of Kent.
4. Robert Bickley citizen of London now living unmarried. About 41.
1. Elizabeth first married to Mayland Stacy, Citizen and Skinner of London. Second married James Jesson of the Citty of Coventry.
2. Mary married to Thomas Evens of Birmingham.
3. Amie married to James Sergeant of London.
4. Anne married to Dadley Rider of Bedworth in county Warwickshire, Clerk.
5. Susanna first married Daniel Starten of London Upholder (upholster?). Secondly married Geo: Pckern of Coventry, Skinner. Lastly to John Hunt of Birmingham.
Richard was buried on 27 October 1667 at St Peter & St Paul Anglican church, Kingsbury, Warwickshire.[4]
