Mr. Hackett had reached the venerable age of eighty-four years. In the year 1840 the late Rev. John Hackett was admitted to the united diocese of Dublin, and for many years was Rector of the important parish of St. James', Bray, in which parish he was succeeded by his son the Rev Thomas Edmund Hackett, A.M. since which time the venerable and venerated clergyman has acted as his son's curate. The late Rev John Hackett for many years filled the position of Secretary to the Incorporated Society. His kindly and genial disposition, and his courteous and dignified demeanour, secured for him the respect, esteem and affection of all who came in contact with him in his official capacity or in private life. Even in his declining years and failing health he envinced great powers of eloquence in the pulpit, powers which distinguished him ever in a large measure througout his long and honoured career as a clergyman of the Church of Ireland...
