Marie was buried on 2 March 1940 in Arlington Park Cemetery Greenfield Wisc,,.

Marie Jorgensen (Married Name):

She was a short and stocky person; thin in the face as some Scandinavian people. Her hair was thin and worn pulled back and pinned. Her eyes were blue or grayish, but of a light hue, in color. She wore her skirt to her ankles and with a pure-white, embroidered apron over the skirt. Her shoes were of the type known as Oxford, that tied in the front; they were always black in color. She kept a neat house, with a pot of coffee always brewing on the old kitchen stove; with a plate of donuts and canned milk instead of cream for the coffee. The old fashioned Danish ways; those brought over with the first family members who emigrated to the United States, were remembered and practiced by many of these peoples. The following are some examples: They ate open-faced sandwiches; whenever it was time to eat sandwiches. These were made with rye-bread, buttered. The bread was then thickly laid with sardines with mustard sauce or meat slices, or hard boiled eggs or Rullepolse ( Rolled Beef Flank ).They would also eat Gren-Cole: a soup made from ground kale, parsley, and onion and water; that was cooked on pork.Desserts were filled donuts, applesauce cake with graham-cracker crust and topped with whipped cream.
My Mother, Evelyn, remembers walking to her grandmother's house, at that time at 62nd street, off of Greenfield Ave. by way of the Veterans Administration grounds at Woods Wisconsin; along the railroad tracks with her Father, Frederick. Unfortunately, my mother walked unknowingly through poison-ivy. When her grandmother saw the poison-ivy she lathered up soap and applied it to her legs; this home remedy brought relief.
Her personality was: She was stern and quite reserved and at times easily provoked. As a grandmother she was known as Best-a-more; which is grandmother in Danish. Marie was left to raise her six children by herself; Soren and Marie were separated. Marie and her children were quite poor;Frederick, their son said that when he was a child he had to share one pork chop with two others. At that time in our history1860 to 1940, life for the average person was extremely difficult.
Sorens health problems are unknown. Marie suffered from asthma, or bronchial asthma. Smoked a pipe.
