Biography

• He graduated from Trinity College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England, in 1805 with a Master of Arts (M.A.) He was Rector at Biisohopsbourne, Kent, England. He was Rector in 1809 at Ivychurch, Kent, England. He held the office of Prebendary of Exeter between 1810 and 1816. He held the office of Chancellor of Salisbury in 1812. He held the office of Prebendary of Finsbury, St. Paul's between 1816 and 1856. He hald the office of Prebendary of Canterbury between 1816 and 1856. He held the office of Archdeacon of Canterbury in 1822. He held the office of Dean of Canterbury in 1825. He graduated from Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England in 1825 with a Doctor of Divinity (D.D.) He held the office of Bishop of Rochester in July 1827. He held the office of Bishop of Carlisle between 1828 and 1856. He graduated from Oxford University , Oxford, Oxfordshire, England, in 1834 with a Doctor of Divinity (D.D.)

Hugh was born with a twin brother (Josceline, 1784-1856) in 1784. He was educated at Eton and St. John's College, Cambridge, where he graduated MA in 1805 and DD in 1825. In 1822 he was appointed Archdeacon of Canterbury. In 1825 he was appointed Dean of Canterbury Cathedral. On 15 July 1827 he was consecrated Bishop of Rochester. After a few months tenure he was translated to Carlisle, where he remained as bishop until his death in 1856.

In the 1851 census Hugh (age 67) was the Bishop of Carlisle and the head of household in Hawksdale, Cumberland, England.^[1]
