Biography

Thomas Weston, born 1717, was the son of Joseph Weston (brother of Samuel) and Mary (or Mercy) Peterson. His first marriage in about 1754 was to Mary Southworth, daughter of Constant Southworth and Rebecca Simmons, with whom he had at least four children. After Mary's death he married his second wife Martha Chandler, daughter of Joseph Chandler and Martha Hunt, with whom he had at least four children. He was a resident of Duxbury, Massachusetts. [1]

Thomas WESTON was born on 4 October 1726. He died on 10 May 1767 at the age of 40.

Thomas died in Duxbury, MA on May 16, 1776 at the age of 49. He is buried at Myles Standish Cemetery in Duxbury. Unfortunately no one has bothered to do the research and fill in the appropriate vitals.

Probate

The will of Thomas Weston of Duxbury, yeoman was dated 22 April 1776 and proved on 3 June 1776 in Plymouth. He mentions his two sons, and two daughters by his first wife, Joseph (executor), Thomas, Mary, and Jane, and his present wife Martha (executor), and their children, Peleg, Mercy, and Rebecca. His inventory was taken on 19 June 1776 in Duxbury. His widow received her dower, and the rest of the real estate was divided between the sons, Joseph, Thomas, and Peleg.[2]

In 1776, his widow Martha was appointed guardian to his minor daughters, Mercy Weston (age 9 years),[3] and Rebecca Weston (age 2 years).[4] Judah Delano of Duxbury was appointed guardian of his minor son, Peleg Weston (age 7 years).[5]

In 1786, his son Peleg Weston, above the age of 14 years, made the choice of Isaiah Alden of Duxbury to be his guardian.[6]

Disputed Birth Date

Mrs. Charles L. Alden, “Elizabeth (Alden) Pabodie and Descendants”, published by Eben Putnan, Salem, 1897, page 97 ([1]) indicates that Thomas Weston was born in 1726, not 1717, to Joseph and Merch (Peterson) Weston, all of which matches Weston-1223. It further indicates that Thomas Weston married Mary Southworth and had 4 children, which matches Weston-1543, and then married Martha Chandler and had several more children, including Mercy (Weston-448). If we can merge these two individuals, we can connect Mercy to her family tree.Rob Stafford

Weston-1543 and Weston-1223 appear to represent the same person because: Mrs. Charles L. Alden, “Elizabeth (Alden) Pabodie and Descendants”, published by Eben Putnan, Salem, 1897, page 97 (https://archive.org/stream/elizabethaldenpa00alde) indicates that Thomas Weston was born in 1726, not 1717, to Joseph and Merch (Peterson) Weston, all of which matches Weston-1223.
