David Hastings was born about 1210. Where David was born is not known but his father held the lands of Dun in Forfarshire, Scotland, so he may have been born there.[1]
David was the son of John de Hastings and his wife.[1]
David married before 1242, Fernelith [Forflisae], the daughter of Henry son of Malcolm, Earl of Atholl.[1] Fernelith became countess of Atholl suo iure that is in her own right, when her nephew, Patrick of Galloway, was murdered. Patrick was the son of Fernelith's older sister Isabel and her husband, Thomas of Galloway.[1]After his marriage, David Hastings was styled as Earl of Atholl de iure uxoris that is by his wife's right.[1]
David and Fernelith had children:
In 1244 he was one of the guarantors of a treaty of peace with King Henry III of England.
David's wife, died before 1254.[1]
Sir David Hastings died after 1269.
