European Aristocracy
William Eden was a member of the aristocracy in England.

William was baptised in 1744 at Auckland St Helen.[1]

He m. 26 Sep 1776 Eleanor Elliot (b. 1758; d. 18 May 1818), sister of Gilbert [Elliot later Elliot-Murray-Kynynmound], 1st Earl of Minto, and 2nd dau. of Rt Hon Sir Gilbert Elliot, 3rd Bt., of Minto, co. Roxburgh, by his wife Agnes Dalrymple-Murray-Kynynmound, dau. and hrss. of Hugh Dalrymple later Dalrymple-Murray-Kynynmound, of Melgund, co. Forfar, and Kynynmound, co. Fife.

He was raised to the peerage on 18 Nov 1789 as Baron Auckland [I] and created on 22 May 1793 Baron Auckland, of West Auckland in the County Palatine of Durham [GB].

William & Eleanor had six sons and eight daughters, including:

  • Hon William Frederick Elliot Eden, a Teller of the Exchequer (b. 19 Jan 1782; drowned in the River Thames v.p. 19 Jan 1810)

  • Hon Elizabeth Charlotte Eden (b. 21 Mar 1780; d. 17 Apr 1847), mar. 31 Mar 1800 Francis Godolphin [Osborne], 1st Baron Godolphin,+
  • Hon Caroline Eden (d. 2 Mar 1851), mar. 17 Jun 1806 Arthur Vansittart, of Shottesbrooke, co. Berkshire (d. 31 May 1829), and had issue
