Biography

Asa was born August 24, 1745 to parents Stephen Barnes and Martha Wheadon. He married Phoebe Adkins on October 30, 1765. He died May 19, 1802.[1]

Mary Fletcher's Family Tree has Asa's parents listed as Stephen Barnes Jr. and Martha, but she does not include sources or birthdates. Her source might be an 1875 ecclesiastical history of Southington:[2]

"17. Asa Barnes, son of Stephen (3), b. Aug 24, 1745; m. Oct 30, 1765, Phebe, daughter of Luther Adkins, who died April 25, 1826. He lived in the southwest part of the town, and kept a tavern... He was known as Landard (Landlord) Barnes, and was very popular in his business. The officers of the French army made his house their headequarters while encamping for a little time on French Hill. He gave a ball in honor of his guests, which at the time created much excitement.

Asa Barnes married in Farmington on 31 Oct 1765 Phebe Atkins.[3][4]

Victoria, do you think the 1875 ecclesiastical history is sufficient to attach him to Stephen and Martha?
