"Absolutely stunning evening dress with a designer label, 'Clothes for you' designed by Madeleine Fauth. This black evening dress that you are viewing is probably from 1954, which is one of Madeleine's earliest labels. Madeleine's birth name was Magdalena Schramm, and after starting in the fashion industry and marrying Morgan Fauth, (he is a well known fashion designer and labored with David Crystal) she changed her name. In previous years Madeleine had attempted to start on her own under the Valroy label. Then the junior department at the International Dress Company. And finally for 12 years she designed at Arkay.
Madeleine's designs and outlook on fashion was very similar to that of Anne Fogarty. Madeleine believed in dressing to please men. 'It is the prime duty of women to look pretty' she opined, although she allowed that they should wear what was becoming to them individually rather than slavishly following fashion. But women should allow men to be the ultimate judges, she felt, if only so that 'men would [then] not make fun of their hats!'"
