Katherine sued for divorce from Edward, charging him with cruel and abusive treatment of her and her children.[7] R. C. Anderson in the comments section of "Great Migration" says, "Many charges were made against Edward Naylor, among which was the claim made by Mary Read that he was the father of her daughter Deborah, born at Hampton on 4 September 1668, just six weeks after the birth of Edward Naylor's second child with his wife Katherine. Edward and Katherine were granted a divorce by 7 September 1672.[8][9]
