Biography

Lionell G. Iron Moccasin, Sr. (Akicita Te'kilapi) was born May 22, 1941 to Leonard and Loretta (Cady) Iron Moccasin in Eagle Butte, SD and when he was four years old, the family relocated to Minneapolis, MN. Lionell joined the US Navy in 1962 and also served in the Army National Guard. Lionell begin his profession in law enforcement in the early 70s and begin working for the OST Dept of Public Safety in July 1978 and was employed as the Captain of Police for approximately 18 years. Lionells law enforcement career spanned approximately 33 years. Lionell also worked for the Pine Ridge High School for four years. He was dedicated to his law enforcement profession, his family and the Pine Ridge Thorpes.

Survivors include his Sons Lionell “Sonny” Iron Moccasin, Jr. of Pine Ridge, Earl (Caroline) Iron Moccasin of Bedford, NH and David (Darren) Burnstad of Idaho; Daughters Samantha (Mike) Iron Moccasin- Leonhardy of New England, ND, Deirdre Iron Moccasin of Huron, SD, Melarie (James Schuh) Iron Moccasin of Pine Ridge, Leila Iron Moccasin and Lorinda Glenn-Sylvers of New York City, Lorrie Robles of ID, Stacy Ramsey and Charmaine of CA; Grandchildren Madoc, Zoe, Merrick, Reannah, Perindus, ZahBree, Sierra, Jeila, T'Rese, Michael, Kimberly, Tamisha, Nicole, Joylynn, Fidela and Alma; Greatgrandchildren Maya, Cecoya and Aixana; Brothers Lawrence (Irene) Iron Moccasin and Lyle (Joan) Iron Moccasin, two sisters, Lorrie Iron Moccasin and Linda Iron Moccasin, all of Minneapolis, MN; Ex-wives Bette Red Cloud of Pine Ridge, SD and Karen Moccasin of New York City.

A Two night wake service started at 5:00 PM, Tuesday, March 6, 2012 at Billy Mills Hall in Pine Ridge, SD.
