This PAYNE FAMILY is the example of the phrase of the CIVIL WAR...

"family against family, cousin against cousin."

I have heard & seen this in history books and really in the movies.. "Blue & Grey"

In researching this family I have found that 5 of her sons stayed in North Carolina with their parents, and joined the Confederate States of America...

1. Soloman 3Rd SGT. captured at Richmond VA April 3,1865
2. Joseph RELEASED at Appomattox Court April 9 1865
3. Sanford DIED at Camp Rader, Virginia cause unknown
4. Alfred wounded/captured & POW at Point Lookout Maryland
5. Charles DIED pneumonia Raleigh N.C Gen Hosp

they all joined out of Davidson County, North Carolina.

AND 2 of her sons that had moved to Missouri wore the Blue Uniforms for the 27th Missouri Mounted Infantry.
