Maxine Hall (Scott), 92, long time area resident, passed away October 11, 2007 at Whitman Health & Rehab Center in Colfax. A funeral service will be held Friday, October 19th at 10:00 AM at Bruning Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Thornton Cemetery.
Maxine was born October 17, 1914 at Washtucna, WA. to Ollie and Lily Goodin Hamlet. At age 7, her family moved to the Spangle area where her father farmed. She attended a country school in the Fairview area. When Maxine was 10, they moved to the Rosalia area and as a young girl Maxine cooked for the farm hands and harvest crews. She married Robert “Dowey” Hall December 26, 1932. He worked for several area farmers and over the years they lived in several places but spending much of their time in the Steptoe/St. John area where they lived on a ranch. Maxine was a hard worker and cleaned houses for several people. She loved taking care of little kids and would often baby-sit for many mothers. Dowey passed away in February 1982.
Maxine was a long time member of the Pollyanna Club at Steptoe. She was an excellent cook and a very hard worker. She married Wilbur Scott May 9, 1989. They spent many years together in St. John before he passed away.
She is survived by 2 children; Linda McGuire of Thornton and Darrell Hall of Colfax; 5 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren; as well as her sister, Chloe Helmer of Spokane. In addition to both husbands, she was preceded in death by a son Bobby Lee Hall, a grandson, Darin Hall and a sister, Pauline Wren.
Memorials are suggested to the Thornton Cemetery.
