- Bays Bedwell was born on 22 November 1901 in Piney Creek, Alleghany County, North Carolina, the younger of two children and the only son of William Reece and Matilda Dixon Bedwell.
- On 29 June 1936, when he was thirty-four, he married Bessie Miller in Bristol, Tennessee. She bore him one child, a son whom they named William Franklin.
- On 15 August 1971, when he was sixty-nine, Bays died of ___ cancer in Petersburg, Virginia and is buried in Southlawn Memorial Park, South Prince George, Prince George, Virginia.
