Biography

Reuel Washburn was born at Raynham, Massachusetts, on 21 May 1793, the son of Israel Washburn and Abiah (King) Washburn.[1][2]

On 1 Oct 1820, Reuel Washburn of Livermore, Maine, and Delia King of Raynham, Massachusetts, published at Raynham their intention to marry.[3][4] On 9 Oct 1820, the town clerk of Livermore, Maine, certified that "an intention of marriage between Reuel Washburn Esq. of Livermore & Miss Delia King of Raynham (Mass.) hath been entered & and published in the town of Livermore as the Law directs."[5] They married at Livermore on 19 Oct 1820.[6] They were first cousins, both grandchildren of Benjamin King and Deliverance (Eddy) King.

From the 1928 history of Livermore, Maine:
He was a brother of Israel and born at Raynham, Massachusetts. He graduated at Brown University in 1814; came to this State, studied law at Paris, Me., was admitted to the Oxford [County] Bar in 1818, and soon after settled at North Livermore, where he had a good practice during the active years of his life. He was Register of Probate for Oxford County, State Senator and a member of Governor Lincoln's Council. He represented the town in the Legislature five years; was Judge of Probate for Androscoggin County.[7]

Reuel Washburn died at Livermore, Maine, on 4 Mar 1878.[6] A gravestone at the Waters Hill Cemetery in Livermore is inscribed with the dates 1783-1878;[8] the birth date on the stone is in error by 10 years, according to his birth record.[1]
