Algar remarried Dorothy Sylvia Gould, the widow of of Dr Hamilton Gould, Christchurch.
He died on 7 August 1966.

Mr Algar Temple Williams, who died in Christchurch last week at the age of 88, was a member of a pioneer family who settled in the Bay of Plenty in the early days of European settlement in New Zealand. He was the last surviving grandchild of the Rev Henry Williams, an early missionary.
Mr Williams was born in Wellington and was educated at the Wanganui Collegiate School, where he was a prefect for the last three years up to 1895, a member of the First XV for four years and a rower for his school for two years.
After a few years in Ceylon learning tea planting, Mr Williams returned to New Zealand just before the First World War. He went overseas with the New Zealand Artillery and served as a lieutenant in France On his return from overseas Mr Williams farmed in the Wairarapa and then was a sharebroker in Wellington for some years before retiring to Christchurch.
