Note: several incorrect dates in the family. She must have married Unås comb-maker after having her son about 1151; one of her daughters by him therefore cannot have been born in 1130.

Gunhild Asgautsdatter "Kongsmor" (kings-mother)

Gunhild Asgautdatter was the daughter av Asgaut Gudmundson Sylte and an unknown mother. According to «Norges Historie» by Ebbe Hertzberg and Alexander Bugge she is presumed to be from Sylte, Norddalen by the mouth of the Valdal river. Her brother was known as Nikolas Sultan (presumably Sylte).

Relationships between historical figures could have been simplified or even fabricated in the text to give the impression that succession remained within the same family….Precise chronology is also difficult to assess from the Sagas….The conclusion must be that the tight family network described in the Sagas is unlikely to be correct and that the relationships shown below should be treated with considerable caution. http://fmg.ac/Projects/MedLands/NORWEGIAN%20NOBILITY.htm

King Sverre's mother, Gunhild , was Norwegian and of good peasant stock in Western Norway. In " History of Norway " by Ebbe Hertzberg and Alexander Bugge believed her to be from Jam in North Valley at the end of Valdalselven . Her brother named Nicholas Sultan (from hunger ? , Reasonably Jam ) .

Gunhild was Sigurd Munns mistress . She was later married to a man from the Faroe named Unås comb maker . She went after his death on pilgrimage , and when she came home she told Denise, after the Pope's decree , that Sigurd Munn was his father. 1)
