Jan Berthout was a member of the aristocracy in Europe.

Biography

In 1268 he confirms donations done by his uncle Gillis.^[1] Mentioned in 1287.^[2][3] In 1285 he accompanied Jan I when the Brabantine army crossed the Meuse again.^[4] Van Heelu calls him the nephew of Raas of Gavere under whose banner he fought in the battle at Woeringen (1288).^[5]
