Note N676E.F. JOHNSON SUFFERS NO MORE
DEATH CALLS WELL KNOWN CITIZEN WHO HAS BEEN ILL SINCE ELECTION DAY
VOTERS HONORED HIM
Fatal Illness Began in the Wake of His Election to the Office of Justice of the Peace --
Funeral Friday
Ed. F. Johnson died today at 12:46 o'clock of Diabetic Gangrene, with which he had been bedfast since November 8, the day following the general election, when he was honored by the voters of Center township with the office of republican justice of the peace. Mr. Johnson's death was very peaceful, the patients sufferer ending his earthly pilgrimage by quietly sleeping away. Death occurred in the family home, 1313 North Wapello Street, and most of the family was at his bedside when life went out.
The passing of Ed Johnson will be keenly regretted bt his host of friends in this city. His death was not unexpected and was probably hastened by the efforts Mr. Johnson made during the campaign. For many years he has been a well known resident of Ottumwa, his connection with the police department offering him the opportunity to meet many people. He was a good father and a loving husband, and his friendship was prized by all.
The funeral will be held Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the residence. Rev. B.F. Patt, pastor of the First Baptist Church, of which Mr. Johnson was a member, will have charge of the services. Representatives of the Lodge No. 31 W.O.W. with which the decedent was affiliated, will be present at the services. Interment will be made in the Ottumwa Cemetery.
The bereaved widow and six children, together with five brothers survive. The children andre Mrs. Anna Heather, Mrs. Daisy Dye, Miss Mayme Johnson, Cliff Johnson and Claude Johnson of Ottumwa and Clyde Johnson of Cedar Rapids. The brothers are Grant, John and George Johnson of Searsboro, Iowa, and Frank of Minnapolis, Mn., and Percy Johnson of Durham, Colo.
