Memorial in Smyrna Cemetery reads: "Johannes Funchess and his wife Katharina were born in Europe in 1715. They left Alsace-Lorraine along with a group of fellow German-Swiss, who came to Charleston, S.C. to make a new life. One of their sons, Sabastian was the father of Daniel who died in 1845. His son, George, came to Miss. in 1820. One of his sons was Wesley Washington who was the father of William F. Funchess, Sr. All of his children by his first wife are buried here except the youngest, Roy S., is buried in Osyka, MS. His second wife, Emma Nellie, bore him 4 sons. Calvin Green is buried here. Jesse is buried in Houston, TX. His second wife, W.F. Jr, and his youngest son Percy are buried in Cleveland, MS." [1]
