Biography

Major John Tennant (1899-1967) was the son of Rt. Hon. Harold John Tennant and Margaret Edith Abraham. John, child of Harold John Tennant and Margaret Edith Tennant, was born on 30 May 1899 and baptised on 29 June 1899 in St George, Hanover Square, London, Westminster, England.[1]

He married, firstly, Hon. Antonia Mary Roby Benson, daughter of Godfrey Rathbone Benson, 1st Baron Charnwood and Dorothea Mary Roby Thorpe, on 12 February 1929. Their marriage was registered in St George Hanover Square, London in the first quarter of 1929[2]. He and Hon. Antonia Mary Roby Benson were divorced in 1939.

He married, secondly, Rosemary Irene Hennessy, daughter of Sir Alfred Theodore Hennessy and Margaret Isabella Moodie, on 4 May 1948.

John died on 11 June 1967 in Kent and their estate passed probate on 11 October 1967 in London.[3]

He gained the rank of Sub-Lieutenant in the Royal Navy.

He gained the rank of Major in the Royal Artillery.

He fought in the Second World War, where he was wounded and became a POW at Tobruk.

He was admitted to the Royal Company of Archers.
