NEATH AND DISTRICT TRAMWAYS. TO THE EDITOR OF "THE CAMBRIAN."

SlR, As I am led to believe that certain erroneous impressions have been created and associated with my name, from the fact of my being one of the sureties for the lessee and manager of the Neath and District Tramways and also in consequence of the proceedings arising under the Bankruptcy Petition presented against Mr Joseph Cook Rees, Builder (also of the London Road, Neath).
With your permission I crave leave, through medium of your valuable paper, to contradict the report that I have filed my Petition, and to add that, I have not the slightest cause or intention whatever to do so. I regret that the similarity of my name with that of my cousin, the said Mr. Joseph Cook Rees (the other surety for the said lessee and manager of the Neath and District Tramways should have produced any action on the part of my creditors as affecting my credit. I may further add that I have (through my solicitor, Mr. Howell Thomas), discharged my liability to the Directors of the Neath and District Tramways), and I obtained my entire release from all present and any further liability as such surety, as aforesaid, on the payment to the said company of the sum of £200. Thanking you for your politeness for the insertion of the above notification, I am, Sir, your obedient servant, JOSEPH REES, Coach Builder, London Road, Neath. April 14, 1879.

NEATH. HEAVY FAILURE IN THE BUILDING TRADE

On Wednesday a petition for liquidation of affairs by arrangement was filed in the Neath County Court, by Mr Joseph Cook Rees, builder and contractor, Neath. The total liabilities are upwards of £22,000, of which £18,000 or thereabouts are secured on mortgages. Mr John Daniel Thomas, high bailiff, Neath, has been appointed creditors' receiver. Messrs Tennant and Jones, solicitors, Aberavon, act for the debtor, who has, it is alleged, lost a considerable amount in litigation which took place between Mr H. Heard, of Swansea, and Madame Patti, upon the contract for renovating Craigynos Castle.
