Philip was the 8th son of Bryan Townsend and Mary Synge.
Derry, co Cork was purchased in 1686 by his father Adam Townsend.

Philip married Elizabeth Hungerford, daughter of Thomas Hungerford, on 28 November 1733. [1]

Richard b. 12 January 1736 [1737] married (1) Eleanor Sealy, daughter of Dr. Sealy, of Bandon, co. Cork, (2) Margaret Townsend, daughter of Horatio Townsend, of Bridgemount, co. Cork.
Thomas Hungerford, b. 1737-8, Captain of the Battle-axe Guards at Dublin Castle ; died unmarried
Horatio (Rev.) married Helena Meade in 1785.
William, died unmarried 1821.
Susannah, married Michael French, of Rath, co. Cork.
Mary, married Thomas Somerville, of Castlehaven, co. Cork.
