Lady Florinda Handcock died on 9 February 1851 at Moydrum Castle, County Westmeath, Ireland. Notice of her death was printed on page 3 of the Westmeath Independent dated 15 February 1851:
DEATHS.
On the 9th of February, 1851, at Moydrum Castle, Viscountess Castlemaine, aged 88. Never was there consigned to the grave a more religious or truer Christian in thought word or deed. Beloved by her friends, esteemed by the public, and idolized by the poor. For truly was the Saviour present with the departing soul and bidding the everlasting gates to fly open, that the weary spirit may enter in and have rest.[1]
Another account of her death was printed on page 7 of the Weekly Chronicle (London) dated 16 February 1851:
THE DOWAGER VISCOUNTESS CASTLEMAINE died on the 9th inst. at Marydrum [sic] Castle, near Athlone, at the advanced age of 88 years. The deceased viscountess was aunt to the present Earl of Clancarty. By her demise the present Lord Castlemaine comes into possession of the extensive estates of his uncle, the late Viscount, situated in the counties of Westmeath and Roscommon.[2]
