David was born about 1762 according to his age at death on his gravestone. [1]He was possibly the son of William Mustard and Margaret Leitch, based on his date of birth and his use of the name William for his first son.
The inscription on the gravestone tells us that David resided at Flowerburn (a farm in Rosemarkie Parish) and was married to Margaret Hossach who died young at age 44. Together they had sons named William and Robert who erected the stone. David Mustard had a son named David who was born after Margaret died and commemorated on the stone many years later.
This is because David, a widower with young children, married again to Isobel Gregor in 1808[2]and had at least 5 baptised children with her in Rosemarkie Parish.
He passed away in 1829.[3]
