Biography

This profile is part of the Kingsmill Name Study.

Bridgett is Kingsmill E12 in the extensively researched Kingsmill Records[1]

Baptised 2 Sep 1572/3 at Church Oakley, co. Hants.[2]

Kingsmill Records Book says 2 Sep 1573 based on an 18th century noting of the register.

Bridget Kingsmill, was the step-daughter of Lady Elizabeth Hastings, widow of son of 4th Earl of Huntingdon.[3]

After her husband Thomas Norris died in Ireland, she wrote letters in c. 1600 that documented her financial difficulties as a widow.[3]

In 1601, she remarried, taking as her second husband Humphrey Pakington of Harvington Hall (c.1555-1631)[4]

She’s buried at St Cassians’ in Chaddesley Corbett (which is the next village over from Harvington).

After a very juicy scandal, Humphrey sent her away. She later fell ill; and wrote and asked permission to return to Harvington Hall to die there. This was granted. There is a later scandal at the hall involving a young man who claimed to be her (and Humphrey’s) son that’s just been uncovered this year.

The hall is now a historic house you can visit/contact, and they can tell you all about what happened to her.
