Biography

Ronald is believed to be the eldest son of Donald MacDonald and Margaret Cameron. Perhaps he had a falling out with his father as it seems that his younger brother, John, was meant to be the heir.

Ranald, in 1670, got sasine of the five penny lands of Tarsgvaig beag and of the five penny lands of Tarsgvaig mor, and in 1673 he obtained a wadset for the same lands, with the addition of Ord, Crossvaig, and Tockvaig. Both he and his brother John appear on record respectively as younger of Castleton, and Ranald also appears as younger of Ord.

It is interesting that Ronald's first Cousin, Archibald MacDonald who possible died in 1678, is also identified as "of Tarsquiveg" in '‘Clan Donald’' by Donald J. MacDonald of Castleton.

There is no record of Ranald after 1689 and it is believed that he may have died at Killiecrankie on July 27, 1689.

Ranald was married, his wife's name is not known, and they had three children.
