Josiah was born in May of 1825 in Monroe County, Virginia which would later become West Virginia. On October 29, 1846 he married Nancy Booker (1824–1896) in the same area of Monroe County.^[1][2] The couple are listed together with two children; William and Isabella - on the 1850 Census^[3] On the 1860 Census the couple are listed with five children: William, Isabella, Hannah, Mary Jane, and Louisa.^[4] The five known children of Josiah and Nancy are listed below (more research is needed):

1. William Myers (1847–Deceased)
2. Isabella (Myers) Myers (1849–1927)^[5]
3. Hannah Ann (Myers) Myers (1852–1936)^[6]
4. Mary Jane (Myers) Abbott (1855–1922)
5. Louisa (Myers) Woody (1858–1944)^[7]

Josiah fought for the Union during the Civil War^[8] and served in Company K of the 7th West Virginia Calvary.^[9][10] He is listed with Nancy after the war on the 1870 Census^[11] and the 1880 Census^[12] in Elk, Kanawha County, West Virginia. He passed away on September 30, 1887 according to his record of death^[13] but the date of September 23, 1887 is listed here to coincide with his Find-a-Grave Memorial which indicates that he is buried in Woody Cemetery in Pinch, Kanawha County, West Virginia.^[14] His wife applied for his pension on July 14, 1890.^[15]

The parents of Josiah Myers are currently uncertain. His parents are not listed on his marriage record or his record of death - more in-depth research is needed. His profile here indicates he is the son of Alexander Myers but two different sets of parents are linked to him on Family Search:

• Josiah Myers (1805–1860) and Sarah Neher (1804–1860)
• John Henry Myers (1798–1860) and Sarah Booker (1805–1880)

There is a belief that his wife; Nancy Booker - was a distant cousin which leads many to believe that he is the son of the second set of parents listed; John Henry Myers and Sarah Booker. At this time this is only speculation as a linking source is needed.
