Biography

His will of 20th September 1660 names:

  • William, eldest son
  • wife Lady Honora
  • younger son Redmond[1]

Children

Mary Agnes Hickson gives a full list of the children:[2]

Honora Fitzgerald, third daughter of said Sir Edmond and Honora, married Patrick Fitzmaurice, Lord Baron of Kerry, the present [1736] Earl of Kerry's grandfather, and by him had issue two sons and three daughters. The first of these two sons was William late Lord Kerry present Earl's father, and the second son was Raymond Fitzmaurice. The eldest daughter of Patrick Lord Kerry and Honora Fitzgerald was Jane Fitzmaurice, who married the Lord Leigh of * * * * in England and, afterwards * * * * Gifford Esq. Mary Fitzmaurice, second daughter of Patrick Lord Kerry and Honora Fitzgerald, married the Marquis D'Abbeville by whom she has issue. Elizabeth Fitzmaurice, third daughter of Lord Kerry and Honora Fitzgerald, married first Thomas Amory by whom she left issue, Thomas Amory of Bunratty, lately deceased [1728], and secondly O'Connor Kerry by whom she had one daughter by name Julia, who married Charles O'Connor a learned mathematician of Dublin by whom she left issue an only son Charles Fitzmaurice O'Connor.

There is some inconsistency in the numbering of the Barons of Kerry and Lixnaw.

The Patrick FitzMaurice who made his will in 1660 is referred to in different sources as 17th Baron of Kerry and Lixnaw[3] or 19th Baron Kerry of Lixnaw.[4]

The 1660 will was held in the Public Record Office in Dublin, where it presumably fell victim to the 1922 fire.

Meredith noted that the will, made at London, named six trustees, including:

  • his son-in-law, Sir Thomas Leigh, son and heir of Lord Leigh of Stoneleigh;
  • Dean Boyle, afterwards Archbishop of Dublin and Lord Chancellor of Ireland;
  • "my son-in-law Thomas Amorie, Merchant" [who "married Elizabeth Fitzmaurice, one of the daughters of Patrick, 19th Baron Kerry of Lixnaw"];
  • etc.[4]

Betham merely notes that the will of "Patrick Fitzmaurice Lord Baron of Kerry and Lixnaw" was dated "20 Sep 1660" and names:

  • eldest son William
  • wife Lady Honora
  • younger son Redmond.[5]

Fitzmaurice-195 and FitzMaurice-168 appear to represent the same person because: they have the same name, they each made a will in 1660, and each was Baron of Kerry and Lixnaw (see biography of Fitzmaurice-195).
