Biography

Mary Caroline was a daughter of Charles Greenman and Caroline Goodrich. She lived with her parents in Milton, Rock, Wisconsin. [1] She married Miles Rice in 1878. their children were:

Polly Goodrich Rice Hurley 1879 - 1974
Anna Rice Stone 1880 - 1957
Edward Americus Rice 1883 - 1946

The family lived in Milton, Rock, Wisconsin, [2]Carrie died in 1955[3] and is buried in Milton Cemetery, Milton, Rock, Wisconsin. [4]

    Mrs. Miles Rice, who was 99 last June 1, died Sunday at 5 p. m. in the home where she was born and married and where her two daughters were born.
    Funeral services were held at 2:30 p. m. Wednesday, Aug. 17, in the home at 308 Madison avenue, Milton, the Rev. John F. Randolph officiating. Kenneth A. Babcock gave the song service. Burial was in Milton cemetery where the Rebekah ritual was given. Pallbearers were A. V. Lukas, J. Leland Skaggs, T. G. Lippincott and C. E. Duckett.
    Caroline Mary Greenman, oldest of the four children born to Charles and Caroline Goodrich Greenman, was born June 1, 1856. She attended the Milton Academy and on Oct. 4, 1877, was married to Miles Rice who taught school. He died May 7, 1942.
    Mrs. Rice's maternal grandfather was Elijah Goodrich, cousin of Joseph Goodrich, and her grandmother was Polly, sister of Joseph Goodrich who built the Milton House.
    Mrs. Rice was the last surviving charter member of the Milton Junction Seventh Day Baptist Church. She was a charter member of Io Rebekah Lodge, Milton, and the Milton Grange.
    In remarkable health during recent years, Mrs. Rice had her first airplane ride in October 1954 at the age of 98. She made several trips to California and at the age of 88 traveled some 2,600 miles touring the west.
    Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. P. B. Hurley, Riverside, Calif., and Mrs. Cash Stone who had lived with her in recent years; five grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, E. A. Rice, two sisters and a brother.
